Here are some tips from travel editors on what not to do on an airplane. Have any to add?
Of course using a travel agent makes you smarter than all these people listed here!
October. The kids and some parents are just getting settled into that BTS routine. Leaves are turning, pumpkin patches are opening and sweaters are unpacked. Spring Break is just a distant date on the calendar, right. WRONG! As a travel professional trying to book her own spring break vacations and those of my clients I can tell you things are filling up fast. So get out that school calendar, double check those dates and get to booking!
But where to go, what to do? Here is a list of great travel ideas for your family this spring:
Great way to see numerous destination without packing and unpacking. Disney is a strong family contender but all cruise lines cater to families with kids clubs, water slides, rock walls and ice skating rinks. Cruises offer a range of itineraries, with a variety of ports and many safe, family friendly shore excursions. Climb a waterfall in Jamaica, visit a turtle farm in Grand Cayman or explore the Mayan ruins of Tulum during the day and world class dining and entertainment at night. Don’t forget, most cruise lines also offer 7 day European Cruises starting in April.
Mexican and Caribbean All Inclusives:
Get off the plane, enter a resort, change into your swimsuits, grab a chair and a drink and watch the kids have fun. No worries about driving to dinner, planning activities, or hearing “I’m bored!” for the next 7 days. All inclusives offer dining, drinks, lodging and fun all for one price. Many are geared toward families with kid friendly buffets, mini waterparks, kids clubs and sitter services. Just pick your favorite beach and go!
A perennial stalwart. Chose a resort, hotel or beach and enjoy. Keep in mind, the weather in Florida can be unpredictable so pack with all weather in mind. Take advantage of all Florida has to offer, including spring training games, theme parks, beaches and sunshine.
This gets it’s own category, with a caveat. Most of the time, staying on or off property is a matter of personal preference but during busy seasons, I would highly recommend staying on property. Many times visitors will find the park is at capacity and closed to all but park “residents.” Be prepared to wait a little longer and book meals and activities in advance but with a little planning and patience it is a great time to enjoy the most wonderful place on earth.
Not everyone thinks of this as a spring break destination, but warm weather, natural beauty and spring training baseball make this a great family destination. The Scottsdale area offers beautiful resorts with an easy drive to the Grand Canyon and Grapefruit League spring training.
Spring Break is not just about beaches. Pick a city you have always wanted to visit and go! Head to Chicago for wonderful museums and great pizza. Visit New York City for shopping and the Statue of Liberty. Washington DC and Philadelphia for a little bit of history and lots of family fun. Atlanta offers mild weather and great kids activities. Grab an umbrella and head to the Pacific Northwest and enjoy the beauty of Portland and Seattle.
There is no limit to what you can do, but get planning soon! And don’t forget passports take a long time so get them now and avoid the rush and extra fees later. Happy Traveling!!
in our opinion is the honeymoon. We have always felt the ceremony was to share your union with friends and family but the honeymoon was yours to celebrate with each other. Alone. Somewhere special or exotic. Going to a place you have always dreamed of.
We love to plan honeymoons. It is so much fun to create this special trip with couples. It is the time to think big. Where do you want to go? What do you want to do? Relaxing on the beach, think Hawaii or the Caribbean. Travel Europe by rail or ship. How about exotic like Fiji or off the beaten path like Costa Rica or New Zealand? If you can dream it we can plan it.

You love cheering on your favorite team at home, but have you ever traveled with them? Traveling to see your favorite team is a great excuse to explore a city you have never visited before. It is perfect for creating memories as a family or getting together with old friends.
I went to my first away game on May 30, 1983. I traveled to St. Louis with my mother and grandmother on a Rosie Reds tour bus. It was my first time traveling by bus, staying in a high rise hotel and cheering on the Reds as a visitor. Not only that, but it gave my family an opportunity to visit such landmarks as the Gateway Arch. I have carried on this tradition with my family by traveling to Baltimore, Boston, Seattle, Chicago, Milwaukee, Denver and New York to cheer on our beloved Redlegs.
My husband has made a tradition of football weekends with old friends. They have been to such great football stadiums as Arrowhead Stadium, Soldier Field and The Frozen Tundra of Lambeau Field.(Although in September it was not frozen!) Keep up with college friends by organizing trips to home and away college football and basketball games. And if you are lucky, follow your team to a bowl game or a Final Four.
We can help you with all of that! Flights, rooms, tours and even tickets! Just look at the schedule and let us plan a perfect weekend. And it is not too late. There are plenty of opportunities to travel for the rest of the year:
- The Reds travel to Denver 8/4-8/17. With Delta, Southwest and Frontier all offering direct flights it is easy to cheer on your team and enjoy all the urban and outdoor activities Denver has to offer.
- Milwaukee is a hidden gem. Watch the great sausage race at Miller Park or explore the museums, zoos and parks of this beautiful city.
- Cheer on the Reds against their division rivals at St. Louis’ Busch Stadium on 9/19-9/21. While you are there visit the Gateway Arch or tour the Anheuser-Busch brewery.
- The Buckeyes travel to new Big-10 rival Maryland on 10/04. Explore the Annapolis/Baltimore area. Ride a boat on the Inner Harbor or pick crabs in historic Annapolis.
- This may be the Bengals’ year (we say that every year) but get in on the action while cheering them on in such great destinations as New England (10/5), New Orleans (11/16) and Tampa Bay (11/30).
Whatever your team we can create a great trip!
